In Jimma Zone’s Limmu Kossa woreda, preparations are in full swing to supply 35,000 tons of clean, high-quality coffee to the central market this season.
During today’s field visit to Welensu kebele, key officials of woreda Administrator Mr. Mustefa Sharif Abdu, Jimma Zone Youth and Sports Office Head Mr. Naguma Mokonon Ofiga'a, Deputy Police Inspector Mr. Kemal Tafese, Mahdi Abdulaziz welensu Kebele Administrator and local community representatives visited top coffee-producing farmers, including producer Mrs. Genet Seifu, to provide guidance and support.
Mr. Mustefa Sherif emphasized that coffee plays a vital role in strengthening Ethiopia’s economy, highlighting Limmu Kossa as one of Jimma Zone’s leading coffee-producing woreda. He noted that efforts are underway to ensure the coffee is processed with exceptional quality standards and supplied through modern channels to enhance foreign exchange earnings.
He also stressed that producing and marketing clean, high-quality coffee that can compete globally will accelerate national economic growth.
Currently, the woreda is focusing on preparing 35,035 tons of both dry and washed coffee for market delivery.
Limmu Kossa woreda has 37,352 coffee producers farmers, over 79,108 hectares of lands covered by coffee production. From 79,108 hectares of coffee farm more than 40,000 hectares under active production.
Mr. Naguma Mokonon, Head of the Jimma Zone Youth and Sports Office, added that coffee not only supports the local economy but also serves as a key export commodity that drives Ethiopia’s development. He called for continued efforts to boost both production and productivity across the coffee sector.
