Ethiopia officially launched the Steering Committee for the National Coffee Platform here in the Skylight Hotel that aims to streamline the industry, improve productivity and quality, and ensure transparency and efficiency in the coffee value chain. The initiative involves bringing together various stakeholders, including farmers, exporters, government agencies, and private companies, to address challenges and capitalize on opportunities in the coffee value chain.

Speaking during the occasion, Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority Director-General Adugna Debela (PHD) said the platform will have immense importance in addressing challenges in the sector and utilize opportunities effectively. Not only this the platform is to monitor progress, identify bottlenecks early and mobilize targeted support-ensuring that no region and no actor is left behind.

According to him, the National Coffee Platform Steering Committee is not only central to guiding the development of the platform, it is pivotal to shaping the future of Ethiopia’s coffee sector. More over the platform is a national commitment, a shared vision, a path to unlock the full value of Ethiopian coffee from farm to cup, from local market to global shelves.

Speaking at the launch, H.E. Semereta Sewasew, State Minister of Finance and Chairperson of the Steering Committee, emphasizing ongoing challenges, including climate change, market vulnerability, and regulatory hurdles She commended producers, exporters, and the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority (ECTA) for their role in achieving record-breaking export figures.

Samuel G. Doe, Resident Representative of UNDP on his part said that the establishment of the steering committee will be crucial for the strengthening and better opportunities of the coffee sector.
